Lava Fields Of The East Rift Zone

Located on Kilauea's East Rift Zone,  four hundred year old Pu`u Huluhulu is tree covered , while  Mauna Ulu was formed during a five year eruption ending in 1974 .

The hikes to Pu`u  Huluhulu and Mauna Ulu start at  the Mauna Ulu parking lot and end with  expansive  overlooks . With lava trees and a stark sky along these short hikes, only apapane birds and the wind can be heard.
